UNITED WAY DAY OF CARING

2016

On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, volunteers from Dr. Jen's Hope served the community at the United Way of Wyoming Valley's 24th Annual Day of Caring.  Our volunteers joined over 700 other individuals in various projects throughout the region.  Our group was assigned to the Greater Pittston YMCA where we cleaned up a childcare center for renovations and organized their equipment and activity storage room.  Great job team!!

2014

On Friday, May 9, 2014, friends and family of Dr. Jen's Hope participated in the United Way of Wyoming Valley's 22nd Annual Day of Caring.  Seventeen volunteers from our group worked tirelessly at The Catherine McAuley House and the Commission for Economic Opportunity, both of which serve causes that were near to Jen's heart.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, to the United Way of Wyoming Valley, and to Mimmo's Pizza and Restaurant for donating our lunch!

If you would like to be involved in our next volunteer project, please let us know!

The Catherine McAuley House
Plymouth, PA

The Catherine McAuley House provides temporary shelter for women and children in crisis and assists them in their search for safe, affordable, and permanent housing.

While at the McAuley House, our group weeded the front lawn and garden, cleaned the porches and windows, disinfected children's toys, and installed window-unit air conditioners.   The group also donated three baskets full of household goods to the residents of the House!

The Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO)
Wilkes-Barre, PA

The mission of CEO is to promote self-sufficiency among low-income and vulnerable populations by confronting the causes and reducing the effects of poverty.

While at CEO, our group worked in the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Food Bank, which is a regional food bank servicing charitable organizations by providing food to alleviate hunger and promote proper nutrition, particularly among children and the elderly.  The friends and family of Dr. Jen's Hope filled an estimated 400 bags of food to be distributed to those in need!
